Disc Jockey of the Year

Sam Upshaw - DJ of the Year

Each year the Cowtown Society of Western Music honors a disc jockey for their contributions to Western Swing and Western Music. The Cowtown Society of Western Music believes that honoring the people who play the music keeps the sound alive.

This year the society has selected Pure Country’s Sam Upshaw to receive the Disc Jockey of the Year Award.

The society believes that radio personalities are just as crucial as the musicians and singers to the legendary musical genre. Radio had an enormous impact to legends such as The Light Crust Doughboys and Bob Wills in the pioneering of Western Swing. The disc jockeys of today have an important role for promoting and preserving this great music today, and that is why Sam has been selected for this prestigious award.

The society’s 14th Annual Swing Fest will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Mineral Wells, Texas where Sam will be honored along with others who have been dedicated to the cause of preserving Western Swing.

All of us at Pure Country congratulate Sam on being awarded Disc Jockey of the Year and thank him for his continued dedication to the music that is we know as “Pure Country.”
